Poetry: The City That Lost Its Light
A heartfelt poem reflecting the timeless beauty and suffering of Jerusalem, from the sacred significance of the Dome of the Rock to the city’s enduring resilience. This poetic confession speaks of history, faith, and the hope of return.
The light shines only after it’s taken from you,
Snowflakes now fall to rest upon you.
A city so unique, so rare at every moment,
The stones touched by the Prophet have become our crown.
With the noble mosque in its heart, the Dome of the Rock in its embrace,
The burden on the ummah's shoulders is heavy, so heavy.
Are you too delicate, is that why your cry is silent?
You've seen many injustices, but this one is unlike the rest.
Once wild children were raised upon your soil,
Now blood spills on you, and a serpent coils around your neck.
Even the light in our hearts is the reflection of the Dome of the Rock,
Now that light is about to fade, and a darkness looms.
O noble Jerusalem, you are forever young and beautiful,
We will come to you, for this poetry is a confession.
